Air Filter Inside Furnace Air Handler

My HVAC was replaced last year and my kids have started having really bad allergies. I found out the air filter was never installed correctly and just sits inside the furnace with nothing holding it in place so air goes around it. My old unit had a retaining rod or heavy wire that snapped in place around the filter (pic in comments). Is this the best option? If so, where do I get one? I searched online but didn't find any. Of course, the installer isn't returning my calls/texts. This will really help my family. Thanks in advance

Re: Air Filter Inside Furnace Air Handler

Can you post a picture?

No filter slot or holder inside the furnace - is it just flopping loose?

The best option is to have a 4"+ media filter cabinet installed at the return inlet of the furnace, particularly when allergies are an issue. The thick filters do a good job without restricting airflow too much -> most furnaces won't get enough airflow on a 1" merv 11+.

Never jump out safeties - especially pressure switches - on a furnace for testing with fuel supply on; use a meter. Do not troubleshoot with live line voltage present unless there's no alternative.

I don't see a picture option on my phone but yes it's just flopping around loose. Thanks for the tip. I called a couple places and they want $400 to install a 4" inlet. I'm hoping there's a cheaper option. Have you ever seen the retaining rods inside the furnace? Can you send me a link to buy one maybe?

Post a make and model number if you can't do pics.

Are you thinking about something like this? I think the image is from Sears parts direct. I doubt anything like this would install in your furnace directly without some hardware to accompany it.
