AC Unit WJH44800KTP0A1 Blows Air, Neither Hot Nor Cold

Wish I could be more specific on the model or the problem..

But that's it in a nutshell..

In the one pic of the circuit board, I remember changing the marked part on my daughters way back when...

I realize the details are sketchy, but I stand ready to give any further info..

Thanx

Looks like that’s a package heat pump, correct?
If the blower runs it’s getting high voltage.
Is the compressor running? Outdoor fan motor?
If not test for a call to run in heating or cooling.
Does the unit have auxiliary/emergency heat? Does it operate?

The marked part is the transformer, which is very easy to test with your meter.
But is likely ok, since you say the blower runs.

Re: AC Unit WJH44800KTP0A1 Blows Air, Neither Hot Nor Cold

The internal fan/blower spins and blows like crazy..

The external fan just sits there..

I don't think the unit has a heat pump in it. It uses heat strips...

It DOES have EM HEAT, but that does not function... Just blows normal ambient air..

I *DID* find the large cap on it (pic marked in BLUE) and it doesn't appear to be blown.. Top is not bulged at all..

I do have a basic meter, but am not a big fan of electricity..

Which is ironic because I work on TVs for a living.. :D

Thanx for the reply..

You have a heatpump for sure though it may not have been wired/setup properly.

When the heat worked, did the outdoor fan come on?

Thanx for the reply... It's worked fine for the last 3 or so years.. It's only recently it's crapped out..

I am not sure if the outdoor fan came on with the heat.. I don't think so...

Check the control wiring. You definitely have a heat pump, which isn’t really a device you install on the unit. A heat pump is the unit.
You’ll have to check the control wiring to determine if it’s wired correctly.

Since it worked for years, can't I assume it's wired correctly??

Not if it’s never run the compressor in heating mode.
To determine what’s wrong you’ll be testing the control circuit anyway. You’ll have to check it live to see what’s calling.
See if you have a heating call when the thermostat is calling for heat.

I assume I use the meter for that?? Can ya walk me thru it??

Yes, check and see what’s calling on the low voltage terminal block.

Re: AC Unit WJH44800KTP0A1 Blows Air, Neither Hot Nor Cold

And it has run as a heater the past few winters OK....

We don't get MUCH call for it here in FL, but it has run the heat just fine up until a couple weeks ago..

I should also note that right before it crapped out, it would be running fine, the outer fan was spinning fine and then it would rumble REALLY loud and shake the house..

Like the fan got off center and shook really bad..

It happened for an hour or so.. We thought it was the military doing test bombing runs in our area as it had been reported they would be..

Could have been a few things that caused that, but more diagnostic work will be needed going forward.

Re: AC Unit WJH44800KTP0A1 Blows Air, Neither Hot Nor Cold

Apologies for getting away from this... With everything going on and having 3 big projects in the works, plus the weather not really being that bad, I got tied up...

We're shut down at work for the next few weeks due to the pandemic scare so I have some time on my hands..

I have found out that this unit IS indeed a Heat Pump unit.. I found the manual!! :D

As I mentioned, the capacitor feels OK.. Not blown or anything..

But I have the whole day to spend checking things with my handy dandy trusty dusty voltmeter... It's funny I repair TVs for a hobby and work around hi-voltages on a daily basis.. But playing around with this capacitor gives me the willies..

"Why do they call it 'the willies'?? The should call it 'the Sams'.."
