Why my oak tree produce sooooo many acorn

I have a oak tree in the front yard. I don't know how old it is. Assuming it is planted right after the house is built, it is 14 yrs old. Entering the September, the oak tree started to drop the acorns everyday. At least 100 per day!! I have to clean my driveway everyday! But my neighbor's oak tree has only a few acorns. Their driveway is very clean. Anyone know why? Anything can stop the tree from producing the acorns? Thanks.

So you want to castrate your tree?

Re: Why my oak tree produce sooooo many acorn

Not an expert on it, but I view it as a sign of a healthy tree. I have a couple and they too are having a good acorn year, however mother nature is providing a clean up crew, I assume deer but haven't actually seen them. But have notices leaves and small branches all over and all of the low hanging fruit is gone.

Rake them up and bag them and dump them somewhere the deer can get to them, just make sure it doesn't look like you are baiting deer.

If you want more technical I find state, college, or even local nurseries to be very helpful.

There seems to be an abundance of squirrels in many places and people who trap them need a place to release them. Maybe you could take a few and solve both problems .

You can always start making bread with them.

You are extremely right!

At least four squirrels running in the tree everyday! Sometimes they jump to the roof and get into the backyard. Drinking, playing, chasing each other, sometime digging, pooping...Not a issue to me for now.

No interest to eat it. Also, the acorns fall to the ground when still green. Not sure why.
Just curious. What is the brown ball beside the acorn? The tree is producing both.

Cut it open to see if there is ink inside.

Oh man.. That's the color on the driveway. It looks like the steel stain.

Weather lore: 'acorns galore - much snow in store'

I have a small oak near my back shed that has dropped so many acorns this year you could turn an ankle. I had to rake them up. I haven't really noticed the other oaks in the area.

Actually, I have no idea what it means.

Every of my neighbor has a oak tree on this street. But only my tree drops plenty acorns everyday. Very strange. I would have a tree, even not a healthy one.

Consider a surveillance camera. Maybe all the neighbors are cleaning their drives of acorns at night and dumping them on yours.

We have lots of oaks in our neighbourhood. I noticed today while walking the dogs that some are dropping lots, others not so much. Different species of oaks? Different timing? Different tree age? Different soil? Dunno.
