r0ckstarr, those are the exact symptoms I had. I know I took the caterpillar to the local HS Science teacher to see if he could figure it out. I can't recall, but he did come up with something. Those furry barbs packed a wallop.

They're horrible. I kill on sight when I find them in my yard.

They have thorns that rip your skin , and in my opinion are ugly.

I believe that the biggest reasons people landscape with them is the fact that they are near impossible to kill, are green pretty much year round, dear don't like them and though it might not be a big reason... I have heard they are burglar deterrents (under windows). Nobody wants to be peeking in a window to see what you have, if they are getting stabbed the whole time.
