i'm an idiot . the rocks are not magnetic. i meant to say they can be picked up with a magnet.. so, there is some iron in them

If you scroll down to Tioga Ash beds, 2nd paragraph, it talks about Illinois.

nothing. got sidetracked working on the fence.

i just now googled "iron ore" doesn't look like that. geothite, there a are few that look remotely like em, but mostly not.
but, so far, it looks like they are Basalt , pumice, pretty cool.
