What is this perrenial ground cover?

Years ago someone sent me this ground cover in the mail.
(a gardener from another forum) We have it in several areas of our
garden planted in beds...It is beautiful.

Since we have three birdbaths in our backyard, we drilled holes
in one of them and filled it with soil and planted this ground
cover in it. All it needs is water.

It flourishes in the birdbath and comes back every spring
(for many years) and looks beautiful all through the spring,
Summer and fall.

I get a lot of inquires as to the name of this perrenial and want
to know what it is.

I hope someone can identify this perrenial.
Thanks, Joann

No, I don't think so...
we have lots of fern. This is more rope like.

I enlarged a photo.

Sure looks like a fern to me. There are lots of variations.

As a matter of fact, we had some last year. It was in with another plant the wife put out on the deck. I thought it was a weed because it didn't belong in there. I was pulling it out when it showed up and the wife made me stop.

Mike, it's definitely not fern...we have Indian fern that comes up each
year, it's colorful and feather like. Regular fern does not come back
in our zone 7...

Even bigger close-up...It's rope like with little bud like rounded
foliage attached. It's a great ground cover as well.

anybody?

I have seen it, but I do not know what it is.

My suggestion is to take a piece of it to your county agriculture horticulturist, and ask them .

They likely have reference material to be able to tell you, then they will print you all the information you need to know about it's care.

Ed, I don't know to need its care as we have had it for many years,
just water is the only requirement.
I just wish I knew the name, as I get so my inquires about it.
It's lush and full and maintenance free. Everyone comments on it.

Look in your area for a Master Gardeners Club.

They love to tour others yards and tell you what they know about your plantings.

And should have ideas as to what the mystery plant is.

Even the County horticulturist will tell you if you take a piece to their office.

Can you take a photo of the leaves close-up? It gets fuzzy when enlarged. Is it a succulent ?

Yes, I'll take a close-up as soon as possible. Right now we have
a rainy day, and it looks like it's going to rain for the next four days.

edit: it sort of looks like a succulent.

Re: What is this perrenial ground cover?

If you have an Android phone, there is an app called PlantNet on Google Play. Install it. Take a closeup picture of that plant and give to the app to potentially come up with possibilities. I've used this app on a few plants and it is quite good/accurate. Hope it helps.
