What kind of plants should a 1920s Craftsman American Foursquare house have?

1920s house. Currently, there are three crepe myrtles in front with about 5 years growth.

What would look good here, ideally? In a Tulsa, OK historic neighborhood. Should there be boxwoods across the front and a fast-growing giant shade tree on the grassy area between the street and sidewalk? Does anyone know what is traditional?

(Side note, if you're wondering about the steps: The sidewalk and steps to the house were partially smashed up and buried 50 years ago, and uncovered about 5 years ago. I hope to rebuild them soon.)

What would YOU do?

Historically old fashion roses that came over on the Mayflower were planted in front of the house.

If big trees were planted close to a structure it was a big mistake, historically or not.

In this area during that period the primary plantings were yews, arborvitae and juniper. Not real popular anymore.

I suspect it varies a bit by region so asking locally might be better.

Here you would need a Lilac bush and some hydrangea.

I love that driveway, the step part. Those wall on each side look a bit close.
