What happens when you over-prune a conifer

Conifers include pines, firs, arborvitae, junipers and many others and when you cut them back too hard they don’t regrow.

Here’s a juniper up the road from me that got butchered that way.

Pray, avoid it unless you like that look.

Ayuh,..... My neighbor's kid trimmed off my big blue spruce like that,......

I'm just gonna leave it as is, with the ugly brown spot facin' the nitwit's house,......

It still looks fine from the street, or my yard,.....

They need to be trimmed "Gently", or the branch dies,.....

If you trim it too gently then sooner rather than later it gets too big and mor frequently you have to chop it down and plant a new seedling, er, sapling, and start over from scratch.

Stick to your lawn watering schedule until it really starts to pour. After the storm you have only the same number of rest days you always had and then you need to start watering again.

Whenever I sold plants to people back in ancient times, I always tried to impress upon them that plants are living things that can, with time, take up space. Sometimes, a lot of space. Sometimes a HELLUVA lot of space. (Fall in love with a Giant Sequoia? Space . . . . )

So you try to find out how big things are, and how they take, and make all the calculations and compromises that can entail.

Sometimes one's knowledge is imperfect, oh heavens. Like the Carrotwood (Cupania) trees, such a nice, deep-rooted tree for your yard? Young, yes. Older, buttresses, like a cathedral.
