What is this???

Hoping somebody can help. I've lived in my house for 4 years now. Every summer I have a patch of "whatever it is" grow in my front yard, and it seems to be spreading. I think weed killer seems to make it stronger lol. Can somebody please tell me what it is and how to get rid of it? I'm about to take Roundup to it. Thanks.

I forgot to mention if I mow it down, it grows right back. And it grows incredibly fast. It's been one week since I mowed my lawn.

Looks like yellow nutsedge to me. Difficult to control, because if you kill the plant, the "nut" (seed) in the ground continues to reproduce. There are some herbicides that can control it. But around here, hard chemicals are rather strictly controlled --- I pull it as soon as I see it. As you have noticed, it spreads quickly, so you need to get on top of the problem.

Re: What is this???

get some WEED-B-GONE MAX. mix it in a garden sprayer. them when it is going to not rain a for few days, spray it on the leaves only. of course a little will get on the good grass, don't worry. just try to keep the WBG on the weed. you should start to see that wilting in a few days. just keep at it. and you will probably have to keep at it for a while, till its all gone.

Upon further review...I think I got me some Johnsongrass. Anyway to get rid of it besides digging up each individual plant?
