weed spray

I have a rather large area that we had alot of dirt moved around, and with all the rains past couple weeks, alot of weeds are starting to surface. Our plan is to plant ground cover (ice plant, rosemary, etc...) to avoid erosion, but what and how is the best way to get rid of the weeds cost effective? would a cheap spray do the trick? how soon after the weeds die can a permanent plant be planted?

Re: weed spray

2% glyophosphate - RoundUp is the best known brand. If anything is still alive two weeks after spraying, spray again. Go ahead and plant once everything undesired is dead.
