Underground sprinkler

Wondering if anyone can help me with this. I've got a blue polyethylene pipe sticking out of the ground for my underground sprinklers. See the pic. We use to have a brass or plastic piece that would allow attachment to the garden hose What piece do I need so that I can attach the garden hose to this pipe?

Here's what you need, get it at HD or Lowes.

This is actually for drip irrigation tubing. What I have is polyethylene tubing 1" in diameter that leads out to 3 underground sprinkler heads. I need a setup that connects the end of the 1" poly tube to a standard garden hose

I don't see a spec for hose size on that, but it doesn't look like anywhere near 1".

Really, all OP needs is a 1" hose to 3/4 NPT female-swivel barb brass fitting. And probably a gear type hose clamp to secure the hose to the fitting.

Might have to make that up from a couple of pieces --- male hose barbs are more common. But should not have too much trouble finding a 3/4 NPT male to female adapter.

Re: Underground sprinkler

I found a nylon hose barb 1" ID to 3/4" MIP today at HD, but it's leaking around the barb fitting even with tightening the heck out of hose clamp. Would a brass fitting be less likely to leak?

Re: Underground sprinkler

The barb end should have been tight in the hose even before tightening the hose clamp. Your pipe must not be a true 1" ID. Brass might be better than plastic, but I would not count on it. Maybe try wrapping some black electrical tape around the barb before pushing it into the hose, then hose clamp.

Re: Underground sprinkler

I have always been under the impression that PEX barb fittings are pretty fussy to install. You need a special crimp ring and a special tool for crimping it and then then you have to measure it with another tool to make sure that your special crimping tool is specially calibrated.

It's not like a rubber radiator hose where you can just tighten a hose clamp around it until it stops leaking.
