replaced my toro 22 recycler gasket, noticed the gears had shifted upon removal of oil pan, do i need to be concerned about timing?

It should not be a problem if you mean that the crankshaft and camshaft simply turned while the crankcase was open, but if the camshaft slippled out, and the gears disengaged from each other, then yes, you need to check that they are properly aligned. You will need to look at the shop manual, to make sure that you have everything in the right place, but beyond that, it should be a simple matter of reopening the crankcase, aligning the marks on the crankshaft and camshaft, and reasembling it.
