Starting lawn on a strip of weeds

Any ideas on what would be best way to seed grass? I have never actually seeded a lawn before.

That job is not to difficult----
Basic---
till the soil--the deeper the better

Rake out the trash and level it

Buy a fresh bag of seed--blended for the type of light on that area
'
Broad cast the seed

Cover with some clean straw

water it

The annual grass in the mix will sprout quickly--shading the slower starting perenial seeds.

don't you have to kill off the weeds first? nuke it with evil roundup first?

isn't that what lawns are all about?

Re: Starting lawn on a strip of weeds

A question about creating a lawn where there isn't one is definitely inappropriate for the "Green" forum. Lawns are pretty much the worst possible landscaping method with respect to water conservation, chemical pollution (people who have turfgrass rarely maintain it organically), and biodiversity/habitat. At least a weed patch requires no irrigation or chemicals, and probably has at least one native species that serves as food and/or cover for native critters. Furthermore, as the weed lifecycle operates from season to season, the dead weeds help to enrich the soil.
