Small tree, shrub or bush recommendations, please

We have a neighbor we aren't very fond of. First, she has a row of dead and dying shrubs on the side of her house - which leads to a somewhat dilapidated fence, a very annoying dog that barks and jumps at us from that corner, a trench she dug to direct all her run-off rain water to our yard and then to top it off, she installed her DirecTV satellite dish on the fence right on our property line. It doesn't touch our property line, so we can't have it removed, but it's right there, next to our fence and we hate it.

In that corner (behind our fence) we have a beautiful rose of Sharon that started growing so large, the branches were in front of her dish. Her son comes out at night and literally hacks away at our tree - which they have a legal right to do since it's overhanging their property.

We've repeatedly suggested she move the dish and last fall when they had a technician out, we suggested again to them (her and the tech) that they move it, as we would likely be planting some trees that would interfere. She didn't want to (not sure why, since they'll move it for free).

I would like to plant some trees there. We are tired of looking at her crappy, dying shrubs, ugly AC unit, a fence that is rotting away, the dog that is constantly barking at us and that ugly satellite dish.

Can anyone recommend either a small tree - max height of maybe 10'ish feet and a spread of 6'ish feet? We could also use a large shrub of some type. Our fence is 6 feet tall, and we have an area about 6 feet wide that we can plant and not encroach on her property.

I would even consider a small garden there with tall plants - maybe sunflowers?

Here is the area I'm talking about - we are going to remove the railroad ties, pave the driveway (cement) and fix this up, so it's high time we added something so we don't have to look at her house, shrubs, fence, satellite dish and dog anymore:

Ayuh,.... Lilacs,..... They can be kept as a bush, or let go to become 12/ 15' tall trees,...
They'll fill in any spots where they can get sunlight, Quickly,...
They'll grow fast, 'n furious,....
From plantin' to 10' in just a few years,...

Unfortunately, neither lilacs nor any other plant is gonna fix the damn dog,...

I agree that lilacs are a good bush to use here.

I disagree that plants wont fix the dog, Bella-donna comes to mind, the trick is getting the dog to eat it.

Plus, Lilacs grow so thick you won't be able to walk or see through them in just a few years. Plant them about a foot inside your yard and allow another foot towards your own house and they will fill that space in a couple of years.

Totally agree with lilacs. They grow relatively quickly, look/smell nice when in bloom and will grow just about anywhere. And in a couple of years will likely solve the issue with the satellite dish.
