Slow growing short bushy cheap plants plantable near foundation?

Picture a driveway along the side of a house on a slope.
A 2' strip of grass/weeds separates the house and driveway.
This grass is washing out and the edge of the driveway is starting to crumble.

I'm considering a 7" deep by 5" wide black-dyed concrete border to hold the driveway edge in. I would need about 14 80lb bags, so about $70 total including dye.

Or what if I tamp down blue stone gravel and soil for like $25? Will that hold the driveway edge from crumbling and also allow grass or at least weeds to grow so it doesn't look like gravel? I don't think it will hold or grow well.

The driveway is 2 sections divided by a path also made of asphalt that leads to a side door. Only 1 of the 2 sections of driveway needs repair (the door's walk way separates them). It will look tacky with only one concrete border. Instead of doing a concrete border on the section that doesn't need repair just so it matches, I was thinking of planting cheap bushes in both of the 2' grass strips which are all weeds anyway. The bushes could grow slightly over the concrete border and hide it, but it's a tight driveway, so I don't want something that grows fast and needs pruning often.

any suggestions?thanks

Plant Monkey grass. Very low maintenance. It only needs mowing in February.
