I cut it down before I read the tips about trying to pull it out. I guess I'll be doing some digging. Thanks for the help.

It wouldn't hurt to leave the stump there for the summer to see if something grows out of it. I have had that happen with 2 Black Walnut trees and a couple of Chinese Elms. They were cut down, almost to ground level, and little shoots started growing out of them. As soon as I cut them down, more would grow out.

I also have a row of 6 Forsythia's where one of them died one winter. I cut it down to the ground that summer and another one grew back in it's place. Now it's the same size as the others.
