should I spray grass to kill now to put sod in next spring

Hi I live in Ma. and my front lawn (actually crab grass) needs to go. Should I use grass killer so I can put sod in next year or turn it over and put it in this year? I've heard turning it over can leave some roots from the weeds and they can come back through the sod.

Thanks in advance
Wayne

Crabgrass is an annual and will die on its own. The problem is if the crabgrass has gone to seed. If it's not too large an area I would carefully pull up the crabgrass and toss it in the trash.
