Raised flower bed

Hi to all, I am looking to build a flower bed on top of an existing brick wall that outlines our deck. The brick wall sits about 20" above the deck and I want to build a cedar flower bed on top of the wall. My question is related to drainage, is there a preferred way to handle the drainage from the flower beds. I figure we will used some type of landscape barrier that let's water by but not the soil but I don't want the water flowing out onto the brick everywhere and soiling the brick, any suggestions? Thanks Kevin
