quick question about fertilizing


location - southern CT
grass types - blend of rye fescue and kentucky blue grass

i will be core aerating and slit seeding this weekend and i want to know what i should fertilize with? i am add new grass in a few small spots and that will get starter fertizlier. i am just trying to figure out what the ideal fertilizer will be to best help these new blades of grass get the best root system over winter.

i have not fertilized since around early june.

The type and amount of fertilizer required varies significantly based on what your soil needs. The 1st thing you should do is take a soil sample and have it analyzed. That will tell you the basic requirements your soil needs such as lime etc. I should also give you the recommended rate and formulation for fertilizer. Especially in the fall you don't want a fertilizer with a very high nitrogen level because that just encourages growth of the aboveground portion of the grass. What you want especially in the fall is to encourage the root system to develop.

Pick one with a high last number for Fall application. Good for the roots.
