Pine Tree ID Request

Might someone ID this pine tree variety, please. Sorry for the poor pics. It's the potted tree in the foreground. Reminds me of a white pine, but not sure. Thanks.

Re: Pine Tree ID Request

Your local Agriculture Extension office has Horticulture experts, that can tell you.

Take a picture , or a broken off twig to them, and ask there.

Looks like a white pine to me also. Some pine trees are regional so it might help to know whereabouts you are located. I agree with Ed's advice.

Whatever it is, it has outgrown it's pot, and needs planted, permanently, that will give it a chance to survive, it is looking sick.

@edk , welcome to the forum!

I agree with @de-nagorg , get 'er planted, if you can, or get it to someone who wants to plant it right away, spring is here! Craigslist as a freebie if you have to.

On the other hand, pines make great firewood . . .

Re: Pine Tree ID Request

Ech, Pines make terrible firewood!!! But agree it looks like a white pine.
If you plant it remove any lower branches you don't want to become big branches.

Canary Island Pines make great firewood. Maybe white pine, not so much.

Re: Pine Tree ID Request

It's hard to tell for certain from the photo but it certainly looks to be Eastern White Pine or of that family. If you look at the needle clusters, if they are in groups of five it most likely is. For certain it's got to get out of that pot or it will die. How well it will survive in the wild depends on where you are and where it is planted.
