Patio grading in soggy backyard

The contractor wants to grade my patio in the direction of the lawn which is already over saturated with water due to bad grading. He says there are no other options. Any opinions on this? The portion of patio beside the house will be graded towards the gate.

You need to post a few photos or maybe a diagram of your situation. Remember that no one on this website has seen or will see your house, so we cannot see what you see.

You do want it to slope away from the house, sounds like the drainage issue should be addressed too.

Here is a pic of backyard. I'm not sure if there is an easier way to upload pics.

Re: Patio grading in soggy backyard

I would prefer this to drain toward fence but contractor says it should drain into yard. I'm afraid of more drainage problems and possibly coming toward house if there is a torrential rainfall and ground is very dry.

I don't think I can suggest any thing of value.

Re: Patio grading in soggy backyard

If you drain to the fence, it will wind up on your neighbors property, that's a no no.
