Patio Grading problem?

I had a patio installed 2 years ago. Now there seems to be concrete crumbling off the wall where the patio meets the wall. There is also moss growing there. I do not see water accumulating on top but could this be an indication it is under the patio stones?

Re: Patio Grading problem?

A couple of pictures of the area you are talking about would be very helpful.

Re: Patio Grading problem?

I have the same answer, as I posted on the other question.

Warranty on the work?

There is no warranty per se but contractor said he would regrade if another contractor thought it was necessary. To me it is obvious he made a mistake. What I need to know is if excessive water under the stones could cause the cement above the patio stones to flake like that?

Re: Patio Grading problem?

No.

Flaking soon after installation, is a sign of poor mix, or drying too fast.

Was the work done on a very hot day, temp above 90 degrees? Low humidity that day.

Concrete is a science, and lots of things can be done wrong and cause trouble.

He did not work on concrete. He only laid the gravel and Stones. He did not dig down to lay the base. He only laid gravel on ground to try to save me money. My theory is that water is pooling under patio stones as grade is towards house. I do not see water pooling on top of stones. Yet the concrete on wall keeps flaking. What could be causing that?

Re: Patio Grading problem?

How old is the wall portion then?

Flaking shows dryness, not pooling water.

the house was built in 1974. I did not have this problem before the patio was installed. They only area around the house where this is happening is above the patio.
