Norway Spruce pruning

Planted a little Norway Spruce 20 years ago, and now it's a good 15 ft tall, but growing outward into an adjoining garden path. Norway Spruce's have plenty of needles at the outer branches, but as time goes on the needles drop in the interior. Question: if I trim back the branches incurring into the garden path, will the needles regrow in the interior where they've long since dropped off?

Re: Norway Spruce pruning

As he said NO.

All you will get is a bare trunk, and if you do not trim all the way around the trunk it will look butchered.

In the wild Spruces lose the lower limbs to wildlife chewing them, or rubbing antlers on them, so either trim it evenly about a foot high (this year), or leave it alone.

Have it moved farther into the yard, there are crews with a big spade attachment that moves a whole tree, root ball and all at one time.

Re: Norway Spruce pruning

Ayuh,.... Agreed,... Spruce don't like to be trimmed,....

Once the tips are trimmed, that branch will die off,....

I've got a blue spruce that I've been tunin' for a few years now,....
Keepin' the lower branches green, 'n alive is a chore,....
