New Driveway, hardscape for the sides?

House my folks built; my Dad and Grandfather put in the concrete driveway and front walkway over 60 years ago. It was cracked, holey, so had a major company come in and replace all that with new concrete.

Front walkway is fine. Driveway ends up more the 6 inches NARROWER than the original. I did get $$$ off as a result. Now I need to sort out what to do for the edges.

The new driveway is 8 foot wide. I drive a 2008 Prius, and as I back out I keep 'falling off' the new driveway. Now, this may be adjustment on my part, but I'm not sure. Contractor suggested river rock on the sides, it is something I can drive on without damage to it or car. He said put down landscape fabric, maybe use some Preen, then the rock.

Why is polished black rock so inexpensive in California and only available by mail order in New England? And pricey here, as well. I really like this Kuro black high polish on this site, but it seems they do not ship. http://www.lyngsogarden.com/index.cf...red%2520Gravel You will have to scroll down to see the one I mean.

The only polished black I can find is on the Home Depot site. I've checked several area stone companies, none have polished black on their websites.

I had started filling in the sides with top soil and grass seed before I even realized the concrete was narrower than before. So that is what you are seeing in the photos.

Oh, btw, they return in about 1 month to seal the concrete.
