Need to some really strong weed killer

I have a concrete patio that has been over grown with weeds and in some cases grass, i need something that is strong to kill the weeds and grass that is growing thru and over my patio..

Your typical big box store sprays are a waste, i need something that will last and kill down to the roots..

suggestions?

Re: Need to some really strong weed killer

Yea roundup is what ive used and have now, works great for the one and two weeds that you get in your driveway and side walks.. but my back patio is about 16x20 and spraying that by hand not going to happen.. I thought about the diesel, but was hoping not to use something that flammable next to the house.. unless it can be diluted some and still kill the grass..

The end goal is to kill the weeds down to the roots, prevent more from growing and finish the patio.. We completed the concrete but never completed the groves between the stones, which is why i now have this problem..

A string trimmer will buzz them down to the flat surface and reduce the spray you need.

Try a large piece of black plastic. The sun will heat that up and cook them. Any that survive after a couple of days you can spot kill them with the Roundup.

Maybe you've never seen a pump up sprayer that costs about $9.99 U.S. dollars on sale that will spray that 16x20 in approximately in 2 minutes. And the concentrate Round - Up ( glyphosate ) mixed according to directions will kill every weed and grass species and trees including the roots that's growing there.

No, it is not for impatient people as you may not see results on some plants for about 10 days. Remember, you wanted the roots killed too.

It will not prevent any new growth from growing there in the future. That would take a soil sterilizer type product.

Trimmer = working on getting it running again..
The black plastic never thought of doing that.. may give it a try since i have some from a bathroom remodel (used to cover and protect)

I have the large pump sprayer.. not sure where it is, but didnt know you could buy the concentrate version to mix yourself. Ill have to check that out.. dont care how long it takes.. just as long as i can get rid of them so once i finish other projects i can return to finishing up the patio.

If you cut them down they can be treated with a glysophate saturated paint roller in about 10 minutes, attached to the long handle if body bending is painful as mine is.

As an experiment in 2015, with an eye dropper, one drop of glyfosate concentrate mixed 1.5 oz. / quart of water, was applied to 1 leaf on each leaflet stem of this Black Walnut tree IIR. The results in about 10 days. I doesn't need be saturated until it runs to the Ohio river.

Re: Need to some really strong weed killer

You need total vegetation killer.
First line I read on the label is the % of Active ingredient, the higher it is the stronger it is.
Any form of oil is going to stain the concrete.

Which is exactly what Roundup is. If it gets on anything green, it's dead.

Diesel is not flammable....well kind of but if your yard gets that hot diesel is least of your problems. Lol
Your neighbors may not enjoy the smell of it.

Home Cheapo has some HDX brand vegetation killer, in an orange bottle, cheaper than roundup and works just as well.
That and a sprayer would be the way i go.

Re: Need to some really strong weed killer

Look up glyphosate-resistant weeds for your area/state. Those will still come up. It's becoming more & more of a problem.

Vinegar will knock down lot's of stuff, you may have to repeat for a while but is not poison and not bad for kids and pets. Stronger at the plant store than the stuff you have at home.
It is acid so it might promote moss.
