Low pressure in one sprinkler zone

Hi, what could be the result of low pressure in one sprinkler line? New Home so I’m unsure if it was working properly last year, system was already blown out when i was doing the walkthrough. Thanks.

Re: Low pressure in one sprinkler zone

Is that zone furthest from the house? Pressure drop can be caused by a lot of things. Look in the pit box for a leak.

You have a 1 year warranty from the builder, notify them if the problem and get it on record, they should take care of it from there.

Sorry I should have worded it better. It’s not a new house. I’m new to the house. Just bought it this winter.

No it’s actually the first zone. I called a sprinkler company and they instantly told me they need to dig to find a leak without even looking in the pit box.

I was a helper on a number of sprinkler installations. You may not have to dig as much as they say. Walk around that zone. You may see signs of the leak w/o digging.

I tried to walk around to see if i saw any signs of leaking from the ground but couldn’t find any. That’s why I’m wondering if it can be a diaphragm or anything that would be an easy fix.

Re: Low pressure in one sprinkler zone

If there is a leak, the ground will be colder & softer, in that spot. Also, do some of the heads have more pressure than the others?

Re: Low pressure in one sprinkler zone

Another possible cause of your problem is the partial plugging of the control valve for that zone. The valves are quite easy to disassemble and check to see if there is any plugging. Some of them even have a small strainer screen internally.

Exactly. Might not be so obvious to you or me though.

Once had a landscaping company doing some work at my place, and after that one zone was bad. They tried for a while to find it, but eventually gave up and called their irrigation guy. Owner of the irrigation company walked around for about half a minute, pointed down and said "right here". Ground was soft.

Suppose it could be the valve too. Debris does manage to get in. But I think it is more common that if a pebble/rock gets into the valve, it will end up under the diaphragm an keep the valve from shutting off fully.

I think that I could find it & I think that he could find it too. It might take some time.

Re: Low pressure in one sprinkler zone

When they put in my sprinkler system, I took a photocopy of the property survey, and sketched in where all the sprinkler lines ran. Has come in handy several times. They used a trencher, not a slitter, so it was pretty obvious where they had run lines.
