Dig up a small area of the "dead" grass, really deep to see if you have grub worms. They cause this type of dying off of grass. If so, check with your local extension service to see what they recommend locally for your problem.

I've read, on the net, so it must be true, if we pull on a tuft of the dead appearing grass and it's easily pulled grub worms have probably eaten the roots.

Start with some background.

-Where are you located ?
-When did you first notice the brown grass?
-Is this sudden and only in one spot, or throughout your lawn ?
-Do you know what type of grass you have ?

Where are you?

City/County and state Province is enough

Miami and Manitoba are different.

I went to Home Depot and it was recommended I try:

It was also recommendED I increase the sprinkler system to 20 minutes (4) times a week.

Hi Ken: "I went to Home Depot and it was recommended I try:" That was good for a morning laugh.
I have known and had to deal with some of the sales people at the box stores and learned to not take their advice seriously. As long as you buy SOMETHING they really don't care if it works and product knowledge was not part of their job application.

Let us know what you find under that grass as suggested.

Bud

We have a similar problem in the yard, but there are no pests. I don’t know what to do with it, the grass dies (((

Should really start a new thread. Same questions to you as post #4, if you want intelligent answers rather than WAG's.

Re: Lawn with a patch of dead/???

Ok. first I tried pulling out some of the grass to see how loose it was. Couldn't easily pull it out.

Next I dug up some of the patched area but didn't see any grubs. I called a nursery and told it's unlikely to be grubs because the AZ weather is too hot.

In any event I adjusted the sprinkler heads and will wait a few more days to see if there has been any improvement.
