Just one question, is this Deadly Nightshade?

This grows in the backyard, my son thought they were blueberries. He didn't eat any, thankfully. If it's nightshade, its coming down.

Take a sample to your County Agriculture Office.

Their expert can tell you what it is.

You might want to try images.google.com. You can paste the picture in the search bar, and it will likely come back with a name of that plant.

Here's a detailed description. http://www.botanical.com/botanical/m...hde05.html#des Your leaves look firmer, more like a ficus type. But like
de-nagorg says, it's worth contacting the County or a Univ. Ag. Extension.

I always think of the old rhyme regarding the person who eats it:

Hot as a hare,
Blind as a bat,
Dry as a bone,
Red as a beet,
Mad as a hatter

Looks like a normal blueberry bush to me, but have it examined as mentioned to be sure.

I can't think of what they were, but I have seen bushes that produce berries LIKE blueberries, only they're not...the berries were hard and woody textured-NOT blueberries. Please do like de-Nagorg posted for positive ID.

The tip about the county agriculture office was a good one. Locally we have the Cornell Cooperative Extension. I emailed these pictures. The verdict: Cornus Amomum or Silky Dogwood. A nice native shrub that is attractive to wildlife and worth keeping.
