Invisible fence question

Hi everyone! First question on here, so please be easy on me.

I am interested in adding an invisible fence to my yard once spring arrives. My dogs are pretty good listeners but like to test me on occasion.

I have a simple rectangular rural yard with the backdoor from the house left open for the dogs at times when I am near by. I understand these system work in a closed loop. How do the dogs get in and out of this door without me having to shut the system off and on every time I want them to head out?

Thanks!

Re: Invisible fence question

I have had three homes on which we had installed invisible fences. One yard had your situation. I don't know the technical reason, but they run two wires in the back closest to the door and install and additional device so the dog does not get shocked on the interior of the perimeter. You can ask them how they do it, but you won't have to turn it on and off. I will tell you if someone unplugs the transmitter that cancels out the other wire, the dog will be in for a shock. Make sure they install the devices in dedicated outlets that your someone won't unplug when ironing.

Re: Invisible fence question

I am not sure if they started making these invisible fences any better, but years ago a friend had one and it wasn't any good. The dogs would still wander off, they would approach the area, get shocked and then end up on the other side. My friend ended up solving the situation by installing a chain link fence.

Re: Invisible fence question

Thanks! I figured they would just add a shield over that portion but I wanted to see what you guys thought.

CrazyGuy. I already have a chain link fence and escape is not my issue. I want to keep the dogs away from the parameter as they sometimes dig at the flowers when they get bored. I planned to add the wire a couple feet back from the fence line.
