Help- new grass not filling in

I planted grass seed about 4 weeks ag. The back of the yard is coming in nicely, but the front has come in somewhat but looks like a severly balding man.
I watered every day 3 x day for 30 mintues for the first 2 weeks, and after that have watered 30 min 1x/day
How should I help it?

Re: Help- new grass not filling in

Depends on what part of the country and grass type.

In my area mid Atlantic. Most places actually sell more grass seed in the spring and early summer. Even when it is only suppose to be planted in the fall.

Spring the fescue is not going to be mature enough to make it thru our summers. No matter how much water the heat will get it.

So you are planting a cool season grass in the summer instead of during the fall when it should be planted.

Save your seed. If you water it perfect you may get a lot to come up. But then it wont have enough root growth to make it thru the heat of rest of the summer.

Being that I've already planted, how do I help it make it through the rest of the summer?

In the first picture, I see what looks like a drainage pattern. - Could the seed have been washed away, rather than grab hold due to the 3x a day watering for for 30 minutes?

If the surface was not prepped or loosened it does not take much to wash it away.

Does the the back yard have the same slope and surface?

Don't waste anymore grass seed now. Late until about 1 September and replant then. Early fall is the best time to plant all the early spring, early April, is to bed in your part of the country. New grass needs to become well-established before the hot weather hits.

90 minutes of water a days seems excessive - you want to keep the seed moist but not damp. I agree you may have washed a lot of it away.

Furthermore, I agree with the criticism of your timing; put this off until the heat of summer breaks, likely the end of next month.

Ditto on the timing advice. Plant in September. It will keep growing as long as the daytime temperature reaches 50. That could be a solid three months. Then in the Spring you will get another three months of growth before you hit the hottest part of the year. When watering more is not necessarily better. If the seed is sitting in a puddle after watering it was too much and it could rot.
