Help get rid of "hole-digger"

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post a question but you are #1 in google under "home ownership forum"

Something keeps trying to dig a hole in a certain corner of the house and we are not sure what it is (picture attached). When we cover it up with dirt again, the creature comes back and digs it out again.

Any ideas what kind of animal it might be & how do we get rid of it? I've thought it might be a mole but from what I could find moles leave ground more even where here it's all bunched-up.

Btw, we are in Seattle, WA (Pacific NW).

Please help.

Maybe put some large rocks in there so the animal can't move them?

Some grating just below the dirt level will stop it too..

Or if you really want to know what it is, put a trail camera out there.

How long does it take to happen? That looks like what worms leave behind after processing dirt, but that would take a ton of worms to accomplish.

what about dumping some moth balls there? I'd be really curious to find out what animal it was. Too bad there's not a way to see it's footprints. I like the idea of a camera best.
