Grass killing Black Lab urine

thats right, I have a black Lab, his name is Einstein and wherever he pees, the grass dies? I now have a back yard with little spots of dead grass all over the place.

So my question is, how do I get the grass to grow back.???

Is there a special fertilizer?

Actually, aerate the lawn, spread a layer of sand and nitrogen fertilizer should do the trick.

what fertilizer has nitrogen ~~~ Honestly, I can take any furnace or a/c apart and put it back together inside a hour. I don't know about lawns and fertilizers. I got at least 5 varieties of weeds in my lawn.

Should I aerate/fertilize/seed the dead spots. My guess is, I need to treat the entire lawn. but I don't know how or when? and I can't afford a lawn care bizz.

I have to admit, Einstein is pretty good at peeing in a 20x20 foot area.

I had two Lab's before this guy and neither one killed grass like this one?

The first number is the amount of nitrogen (N), the second number is the amount of phosphate (P2O5) and the third number is the amount of potash (K2O). These three numbers represent the primary nutrients (nitrogen(N) - phosphorus(P) - potassium(K)). This label, known as the fertilizer grade, is a national standard.
Quote:
A brief description of each major nutrient will show why grass has its own preference for fertilizer.

Nitrogen:

essential for growth of foliage;
produces lush, tender, green leaves (or grass blades);
deficiency results in a yellow-green color (chlorosis) and little or no growth;
is easily flushed through the soil.

Phosphorous:

stimulates root growth;
hastens the maturity of plants;
promotes development of flowers, fruits, seeds;
deficiency can result in slow or stunted growth and purplish discoloration on leaves;
remains in the soil quite well.

Potassium:

gives vigor to tolerate changing weather conditions;
helps resist disease;
assists in the food manufacturing process;
strengthens cell wall structure for strong stems;
deficiency can cause week stems and slow growth;
leaches from the soil, not so fast as nitrogen.
Couple of tidbits off the Interwebs to help you out.

I think you might be happy with a 21-3-3 or something that is a big-small-small number set.

I'd rather have dirt and rock for a lawn.

Jeff...Bondo is pulling your leg buddy.

He would shoot a liberal if they peed on his yard...but not a dog.

Re: Grass killing Black Lab urine

Here's a tip moving forward - as soon as the dog pees, throughly water that spot. I keep a full watering can outside (you can also use your hose). The water will dilute the pee and prevent it from killing the grass in the first place. So far it's worked for me (at least it's drastically minimized pee spots).

Re: Grass killing Black Lab urine

Have you looked at those grass saver dietary enzymes? I thought this was confined to the female dogs, but maybe not.

I wouldn't feed my pooch anything unless I was sure of what it was and does, but there are some dietary options out there.

Is it unrealistic to teach a dog where to pee?
