French Drain - Dirty Gravel?

I'm building a french drain in the backyard and so I ordered some 3/4" gravel from a local supplier. They delivered it, however the gravel came with some 3/4" pieces but a lot of it is much smaller and there is a lot of sand/dirt in it. Is this typical when ordering 3/4" gravel? Can I use it in the French drain or do I need something where all the pieces are the 3/4" size?

Ayuh,.... Sounds like ya ordered, or atleast got 3/4", Minus,.....

For fillin' 'round a drainage pipe, ya oughta start with 3/4" washed stone, then go to the 3/4" minus as ya near the top of the fill,....
