Doesn't grub worm work from the inside out and make the ring bigger every year? Did on a patch of St. Augustine in TX.

It's fairy ring and necrotic spot. The darker circle part at top of picture is fairy ring, the dead part is necrotic ring spot. Caused by not properly removing a stump. Most people will grind the stump and just rake it out and seed. The wood chips or debris will then break down and tie up nitrogen (Carbon:Nitrogen ratio gets out of whack). Dig it out and replace with fresh soil and reseed or sod, you'll need to go down probably 6" at a minimum.

They're all wrong. It's a necrotic ring spot. It's due to a fungus. Not a big deal.

It does look like necrotic ring spot. You can use fungicide as a temporary treatment but likely you will have to dig up the area and put new soil and seed down.

This seems like a great video, with both tips on diagnosis & problems with over watering ( like rain!)

It is a late stage necrotic ring caused by a fungus.
