I realize I'm a little late but I purchased the Troy Bilt Trimmer Plus along with the Edger attachment and it's solid for the price.

Re: Buy an inexpensive weed wacker?

If you want battery powered. https://smile.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKE...decker+trimmer

I have the above trimmer. I have had it for a couple years and it runs great. It has 6 speed dial, if your using it on 6 it lasts about 15 minutes but you only need that much power if your going through some nasty stuff. I use it on 1 ir 2 and it will last about 40 minutes and does everything I need. The battery will charge back up in an hour so if you need to recharge, it does it pretty quick. Its a single line trimmer but no taping required, it is autofeed. I usually go through a spool a summer but I tend to only trim the big stuff every other mow. Its easy to put in the new spool, takes about 1 or 2 minutes for me from start to finish and I only have about 40% use of my left arm.

I also have a hedge trimmer from B&D that uses the same battery and I LOVE it. It powers through my hedges with no problems at all. I have 7 hedges that are about 6-7 feet tall and it can do them all plus my bushes and still have power left over. I tell you, once you do it without the cord, you wont go back. I also have their blower which also uses the same 40V battery, it works fine on hard surfaces but dont expect to blow off anything soft like the ground. I use it on my deck and patio and driveway with great results.
