Best time to spray lawn?

Newbie to the forum here. I was reading thru the forum and there is a great deal of information. Anyhow, thinking about spraying my lawn for weeds this fall. Some people say this is the best time. I typically spray in the spring with Trimec. Trimec seems to work well in spring. Any thoughts or success stories for fall spraying? Anything better than Trimec?

Depends on the weed(s) and what you're trying to accomplish.

Never even heard of Trimac.
No one's going to have a clue what weeds your trying to deal with, or be able to make suggestions on what product to use without at least a location.

Good point about checking the manufacturer websites. anyhow, I live in Ohio. Dandelions are the mainstay and can be quite difficult to manage at times.

Trimec is 2-4d, which is a broadleaf weed killer that has been on the market since WW1.

Spraying in the fall is good - especially if you can spray after the first frost.

Just remember that it's going to kill all broadleaf plants that it touches - including your wife's late-season flowers.

You can pick up 2-4d just about anywhere. If you have access to a farm store - such as TSC - that's where you'll get your best product for the best price. It's the ingredient that's important, not the name brand. Also, look at the percentage of 2-4d in the bottle. Some are pretty weak.

Re: Best time to spray lawn?

Fall is the absolute best time to spray weeds in the northern US. When spraying in fall plant is building carbohydrate reserves and puts all energy into the roots. Dandelions have a tremendous taproot, so spraying them in the fall will get the product down into the root and give a complete kill. Whereas a spring spray will kill back the leaves but leave the taproot in tact which means you will keep chasing your tail.Any time mid Sept through October should give you great results!
