Ariens Snowblower

I have an Ariens 870 snowblower.
It seems just recently when I get into a high snow area, the snowblower will slow down, I almost have to push it., like it loses power under a load.
The engine does not seem to slow, just the drive mechanism.
What adjustment to I have to make??
Is it a loose drive cable?
Thanks
Barry

Re: Ariens Snowblower

Bondo's correct as a first step. The drive belt could have become glazed. If not, check to see if the belt tensioning is within specs. This info is usually in the owner's manual.

I don't know Arien, but if the drive system uses a 'slipper wheel' - where a drive idler contacts a large driven disc at various locations on its radius depending on the 'gear' selected, the surfaces of either may have become glazed. If so, you can try roughening them up with some sandpaper. If that doesn't work, they might need replacing. One final note - if you did some preventive maintenance in that area and used grease on some sliding surfaces, you may have used too much and it has flung off and got on the wheel. I've done it. Clean it off with a bit of varsol.
