9'x7' Patio 24"x24" slabs. Prep work needed.

I want to create a patio area where a hot tub will be placed. The area is 9 feet by 7 feet.

This is what I was planning on doing and I am hoping that it is the correct way"

I am planing on digging 6"-7" deep below level. Compact the dirt, add 4" of 3/4 gravel and compact, add 2" of crushed stone (aka limestone) and compact. Then lay the 24"x24" patio slabs. Fill in the gaps with crushed stone/sand.

I am in Toronto Ontario, so winters can get pretty crazy around here. Would this work out OK considering it will have 4500 lbs of weight on top. Tub weighs 3528 lbs I figure with people inside it could reach 4500 lbs.

Some have suggested to just dig down 4 inches, put crushed rock ( limestone ), compact and throw the patio slabs on top. No need to 3/4 gravel as a sub base.

Your opinions.
