What is minimum distance between kitchen counter top and island?

Rental property kitchen remodel: (1) There will be 5' of base cabinets & countertop along one wall. (2) Running parallel to that counter top & base cabinets, will be a 5' long island (seating on one side). QUESTION: What is the minimum floor space between the counter top and island? OR, a better question, what is the minimum distance between the front edge of the countertop and the adjacent front edge of the island? Are there Code requirements? --Helpful input will be appreciated. ---Jaes.

Just yesterday I installed my kitchen island (the cabinets part of it anyway).

I looked but I never did find a code reference for the minimum distance. Fortunately I have ample space and there is 44" clearance.

But everything I've read here and elsewhere says anything less than 36' is going to be a big problem when you have 2 people in the kitchen at the same time. 32" would be the absolute bare minimum for a 1-person kitchen.
