Undercounter Trashcan

So, bit of a weird question here, and not even sure this is the correct place for the post.

I recently installed a Rev-A-Shelf under counter trash can (see attached pictures). Works great. It replaced a foot-pedal trash can that was in the way as we were walking through the kitchen. The only drawback is that we have to manually lift the lid. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/experiences on how to make this lid open automatically when I pull it from under the counter and close again when slid back in?

I contacted the manufacturer to see if they made a battery/sensor operated lid, but they don't. I was thinking some sort of spring might work but I do anticipate a few problems with a spring.

Anyhow, this community has never let me down, hoping they have some experiences or ideas to share on this one.

Re: Undercounter Trashcan

Any of the under the counter trash cans that I have seen didn't have a lid. Would you be okay with that?

Re: Undercounter Trashcan

Hi Guap0,

Definitely want the lid on there. It's the trashcan for landfill which means food leftovers etc etc going in there. Too stinky not to have a lid. And can't swap it for the recycle trashcan as the designated recycle trash can is (and needs to be) significantly bigger than this under-the-counter one.

BTW, the gap between the top of the lid and the underside of the counter is approx 1 & 3/8". But I can move the trashcan higher or lower for a good solution (if one exists).

So far, the closest that I've found is what they call a "click top" where you press a button & the top opens.

Re: Undercounter Trashcan

Steel the foot pedal mechanism and rig it to the new one and figure a way that it activates when the draw is pulled out.

Re: Undercounter Trashcan

Not sure if it would fit, but you may contact the manufacturer to see if there are other sizes. https://www.homedepot.com/p/iTouchle...ZT13/100653815
