Which trowel and mortar to use?

Soon I will be putting up 2"x4" ceramic subway tiles on my tub surround. I have 1/2" cement board up right now, joints taped with mesh and sealed with thinset, next I will be putting up Hydro Barrier as my waterproofing layer. My question is which size trowel to use for my tiles, and also if there is a mortar that might be recomended for this application as well. I used Versabond thinset to seal my joints and have quite a bit of that left over, so that would be my first move to use it.... Thanks in advance!

*I dont see how it would matter, but I plan to run the subway tiles vertically up the walls...

Versabond thinset is good stuff. Not sure what size trowel. Should say on the bag of thinset. Somewhere between 2 and 4".
