Tips for closing in an attached carport

Hi everyone! We have an attached carport (two walls are attached to the house, and another wall includes a short brick wall with an opening to walk through, and then of course there is the opening to drive into. My husband and I are wanting to close in the carport to convert into a homeschool room, but we are not sure exactly what the best way to accomplish this is. We are working on a budget. Any tips?

Re: Tips for closing in an attached carport

Water is the big concern, if you are in a cold zone the foundation for the house is down to below frost level and the slab for the garage is not usually a concern as it can move independent of the walls and posts. If you have good slope away from the structure, that is a plus. If not you may want to build your walls in a way that allows that movement.
Another concern will be the thickness of the slab on the edge because we would like to have 6 to 8 inches of concrete between ground level and the bottom of the wall to keep insects and water out. the side is not hard to deal with but the driveway can be a problem.
Will you be concerned with the slope of the floor?

Are there footings under the posts?

The floor has a decent slope. I'm not sure about the footings. There aren't any posts going into the ground. There are three poles that go from the short brick wall to the ceiling.

Also I'm not sure if our zone is considered cold. We're in upstate South Carolina.

If the brick wall goes below grade 2" or so, I wouldn't worry about footings.
