shower drain cover

the shower that i just finished "fixing up" (turned out pretty good, btw), didn't have a drain cover. no biggie, except that i do not see any screw holes to fasten one down. there is a rubber gasket that is somehow fastened down. i did not remove it for fear of damaging something. the hole itself is 2".
any idea what is up with this ?
thanx

FIXN..... Ya know we love pictures.....

What drain assembly did you use..... I don't know any that do not provide for a drain "cover"/strainer.

And I don't understand why it is no biggie.... maybe I don't know what a drain cover is.?

Re: shower drain cover

i didn't have my camera with me.

i did not install the fiberglass pan, new construction 20ish years ago. basicly what i did : regroute the bottom 4' wall tiles, reset 2 tiles, fix drywall and trim damage, and install a new door.

here is a few pics of before.

Re: shower drain cover

WOW. what a mess that was. Sounds like you put a band-aid on it though. Save your $$ for a complete re-do soon. If the surfaced was that bad, I can imagine you bad the inner walls are.

Drywall in a shower install? Yikes, not a good plan at all.

yeah, a bit of a mess, but it only went greenboard deep. cut it all out, just the bad parts. saved the tiles. patched it up and a new door. bandaid, yes, i told her it was. that is all she wanted to pay for. but it does look like new now.

greenboard, blops of mastic on a tile, stick to wall, groute = thats it.
but it did last 20 years, 15 of those with poor care.
