I am half done changing my carpeted stairs to Oak with a tread and riser kit and now I would like to change my old style iron rod balusters to these stainless round rod ones. Would someone be able to walk me through how its done.
My current wood railing has a steel plate underneath it that gets attached to the wall upstairs and then comes down to middle and then bottom level. This plate is where the wood railing and old iron pickets screwed into.
Should I ditch this steel plate and add a wood filler plate to the wood railing and then drill round holes underneath it to slide the new rods in and secure the bottom with screws?
I am not sure what to do with this steel plate if I could ditch it or not. I eventually would want to install a new thicker wood railing with 2 Newel posts and still keep the stainless round balusters.
I will try and includes pics of what I am talking about
