OSB Subfloor orientation

I am remodeling a room in my 1925 Craftsman home that was actually an addition at some point. The room is 10ft by 7 ft with floor joists running the 10 foot length. I am putting in a new subfloor with 1 1/8 OSB under backer board and finished with ceramic tile.

My question is: Because the width of the room is only 7ft, is it necessary to stagger each section of OSB for strength or can just lay them down in full sheets perpendicular to the floor joists?

Thanks!

No need to stagger joints in your case!

Re: OSB Subfloor orientation

You always go perpendicular to the joists.

Re: OSB Subfloor orientation

Assume that you have sufficient blocking along the perimeter wall, you are good to not stagger the joints. The joint stagger is to add strength when the span of the room would not be less than the length of the material. You have more strength doing it as full sheets in your situation as to staggering.
