Opening an enclosed porch

We bought a house that was initially built as a one story on stilts. At some point they enclosed the bottom making it a two story. They had the bottom porch enclosed at a later time (not done very well rendering the space useless) and we want to open it back up. The problem is that toward one end one of the existing pillars for the upper floor is exposed a few feet back from the edge of the slab and can not be moved. We are afraid that putting the new pillars that far back will not adequately support the roof. So my question is how far can we go back before it compromises the support? What is the maximum overhang length for porches? Also any ideas on a better solution would be greatly appreciated. Note that the roof is not a large slant. Thanks, Misty
