Need advice on opening up diagonal walls

I am preparing to move into a new home and the first order of business is to open up the sight line from the kitchen to the great room. There are two small wall sections and a diagonal wall in between them. There is a second taken above and probably roof load. I need advice on how to carry the span over from each opening pictured. I presume it can be best accomplished with 1-2 columns. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Need advice on opening up diagonal walls

In a situation like this, it would always be best to get an on site inspection and recommendation from a structural engineer. We can't see what is above the ceiling, and he could make a better determination that we could.

Something to think about..

Taking out that wall will cause the hardwood floor to need work, maybe even replaced.?

Then you have the ceiling to deal with.?

Electric and lighting.?
