Moen Towel Bars- Plastic BS

Anyone use a new Moen towel bar lately?

I just rec'd some and the wall mount is plastic and the end pieces are supposed to snap in to position rather than use Allan set screws.

Anyone know which brand still uses the system with the set screws?

Just about any brand made between 1920's and the 1950's, so it looks as if we
( that liked that type of construction )
need to visit old house demolition areas or one of the vintage recycle businesses.I'm sorry, but that's about the best I can do for you this early in the AM pugsy.

Thanks.

Man, I don't know what to do now.

The plastic mounting piece has a tiny little "snap" in place tab that goes into a square hole in the escutcheon and I'm 99.9% sure the thing will fall off the wall in no time.

The tabs to keep it straight should really help on a tiled wall.

I bought a set a year or so ago and they were still the set screw type mount. I wonder if that new design is across the Moen line or just that model? You could also try Taymor (Home hardware and probably others). I agree that it doesn't look very durable.

I'm pretty sure it will be across the board......$$$$$ talk.

Well, Amazon gave me a UPS label to print and I dropped them off at the local Brown store and done.

I have a fall back if needed. I can fab them from stainless, mirror polished, if I have to.

Great to be handy. I should have clarified that I don't recall the maker of the bar I bought. I'm old school enough I still actually shop in stores. At least you can open the box (most times) and confirm the construction.

I'll check Orange and Blue to see what they got.

If you've got one in your neighbourhood, don't overlook Home Hardware - good Canadian company.

Re: Moen Towel Bars- Plastic BS

I've had good luck with Kohler products. The alteo towel ring and toilet paper holder are (pretty much?) completely metal. I believe the bars themselves in the towel bar are plastic but everything else seems to be metal and its made very nicely. The mounting plates are metal and would have no issue on tile.

Re: Moen Towel Bars- Plastic BS

Thanks.

I found the Moens in HD still had metal mounting plates although they were a different series than the faucet. I said the heck with matching, I prefer something quality over how they match the faucet or not.
