Joist question about rock house restoration

I have an old rock house on my property than I'm restoring and need some
help figuring out what bracing I need for my rafters on a project I'm
working on.

Here are the pertinent details:
The short wall is 16 inches tall made of 2x6s tied down with anchors.
The rafters are 5/12 slope.
The width of the building is 17 feet (length is 42)
Rafters are 2x6 and ridge is 2x8 (16 inches on center)

As far as load goes
Roof will be metal with 7/16 solar board.
Snow is rare where I live but we occasionally get maybe a small amount of
ice build up.
Not sure as to what I will be putting on the underside

I'm thinking of putting double collar ties 1/3 the way up every 48 inches.
If I did this those ties would be right a little over 12 feet.

Questions are:
Will this work?
What size lumber would I need for that span.
If so, could I go a little higher than 1/3 so I can buy 12 foot lumber.
Do I need collars up near the ridge beam on every set or at all?

Any advice is welcome.

Since you are using a ridge BOARD rather than ridge BEAM, the rafter ties would need to be designed by a SE, not us here. He/she would figure the fastener number/spacing and take liability for your safety and meet your HO Insurance standards in case of failure. Welcome to the forums!

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
