installing beam in 2-story interior load-bearing wall

I have a 2-story, interior wall that separates a foyer from a Great Room. I want to remove/open up that wall, but only the lower "half", not all the way up to the ceiling. I have found numerous videos and instructions for replacing load bearing walls with supporting beams, most are fairly simple depending on the application. However, in this type of situation: How do I build a temporary support wall? I can't easily support all the way to the ceiling? if I "scab" supports just above the proposed beam, even if that will be sufficient temporary support (?) that will restrict my access to get the new beam in. Ideas? Solutions?
